is the best plan. No big buses

A book that one can read in a very short time, under a half an hour. You won't want to miss it. The book , by author Alan Feldstein focuses on all of your most important questions about going onto an African Safari. I recently booked with his company based out of California and Tanzania. Going directly with a person who knows safaris, customs, etc. is the best plan. No big buses, large crowds or waiting in lines. Our trip is the easiest one I have ever planned for. Read the book of Answers!!

Short and sweet overview

This book isn't super-detailed and doesn't go into great depth on any single topic. At less than 50 pages, it really can't. Having said that, it answers a lot of common questions many travelers to east Africa might have, and removes some of the mystery.

I call this the meat and potatoes of Solo wargaming. It gives the reader a little realism in campaigns. There are a lot of charts for dice roles. If you like the suspense of weather and terrain and how they affect the games, or making your own map, rolling for minefields, writing a journal of each game, this little gem would fit you to a tee. There are numerous charts, ideas, for any battle era.

An excellent system for solo-campaighning the part relating to how to hold an objective table top battle is a bit sketchy and I could have done with a bit more detail on how to conduct the apex of such an undertaking. Still, it's a good start and I'm glad I made the purchase.

Too General a Guide

This was a solid effort mixed with nice wargame journal notes on how the author's system works for him. Several areas of solo wargaming were not really well addressed (they were glossed over) and there was little specific information offered for the solo gamer. For someone just thinking about diving into solo wargaming this might wet their appetite but other authors have really covered this in better detail for those wanting to game in a solo manner.

There's a reason Gygax is one of the greats...

"The Villiage of Hommlet" is a classic early (1980) TSR product. The copy that I ordered came pretty much in the condition it was described, but since these are for the most part all going to be used products, I'm not going to waste a lot of review space about the physical condition of the module (I am satisfied that I got what I payed for).

That being said, I had high expectations for this module since Gary Gygax's name is on the cover. I was not disappointed. Admittedly, the dungeon floor plan suffers a bit from what I think of as 'how-will-I-fit-this-all-on-one-sheet-of-graph-paper' that many homemade modules tend to suffer from, but that's really the only flaw I can find in the module. The village seems very complete. The designer spent time giving the NPCs enough background to make them useful, but not so much that a Dungeon Master can't make his own mark here. There are things going on in the world that make the experiences in the village meaningful.

It seems very much like an excellent module for beginning gamers to get a feel for campaigning. Will the heroes stay in Hommlet forever? Of course not, but there's enough meat on this module's bones that an aspiring party could base themselves here while they're finding their footing. I would confidently recommend this module to other new DMs that are just starting to design their own adventures, so they can take advantage of a fine example of world-building.

INTRODUCTORY TO NOVICE LEVEL

The Village of Hommlet has grown up around a crossroads in a woodland. Once far from any important activity, it became embroiled in the struggle between gods and demons when the Temple of Elemental Evil arose but a few leagues away. Luckily for its inhabitants, the Temple and its evil hordes were destroyed a decade ago, but Hommlet still suffers from incursions of bandits and strange monsters. . .

This module contains a map of the village and lands around, a large scale map of the inn, church, trading post, and guard tower (main floor, upper rooms and cellars), an informational key regarding the inhabitants, and a map and exploration key for a destroyed moat house, a former outpost of the Temple of Elemental Evil. The whole provides a complete, ready-to-play scenario, and is a lead-in to DUNGEON MODULE T2, THE TEMPLE OF ELEMENTAL EVIL.

A Paddlers Journey; but with a bigger message...

A great read about the journey from a novice's interest to expert level accomplishment... Although about kayaking, it's an inspirational book that makes the reader think about their own passions in life,and "what it would take" to get to "the next level".

Well written and a fun read, it contains a wealth of information (and great stories) for paddlers; but the bigger message would resonate with anyone who has a passion, and wants to know how to make it a bigger part of their life.

About the Author
Johannes Eckart, more commonly known as Meister Eckhart, was born near Gotha in eastern Germany in around 1260. He had an illustrious career in the Dominican Order, holding senior ecclesiastical and teaching posts all over Europe including Saxony, Bohemia, Paris, Strasburg and Cologne. Eckhart is one of the great speculative mystics of Western Europe, who sought to reconcile traditional Christian belief with the transcendental metaphysics of Neoplatonism. Although accused of heretical teaching during his own liftime, Eckhart is widely regarded today not only as fundamentally orthodox but also as a foremost exponent of Christian mysticism and Christian philosophical theology. He died in the winter of 1326/7 in Avignon.

One in three, three in one.

A fine selection of Meister Eckhart's writings, but not for the faint of heart. This is solid Christian stuff, about God, father, son and holy spirit, and about the symbols of the faith and its spiritual insights into the relation of man and God. Unless you have a pretty good idea about the tradition of the Christian faith you will quickly give up, but for those who persist, there are wonders here. He talks about the notion of God as a trinity of action not a dualism. I think of the 3 sided rotary Mazda engine - not the up and down, either/or, dualism, of the conventional engine!
We know that God is one in trinity of persons, and the world is his creation/creatures. Eckhart talks much about the One in All in a lively way so that one, paradoxically, may see one in all. And this is but one his brilliant paradoxes which he tells us how to resolve.

Reading Eckhart is very current about how many feel now about God. Insights, thoughts, suggestions. I wanted to talk back and did; disagreeing in places, and that improves my thinking, stimulated by a profound thinker.

Pricy for Kindle, given the material

This is a review of only the Kindle edition of this book, not the hard copy, although some observations may apply to both.

As I say in the title, almost $9 is fairly pricy for a Kindle edition which has a good, but not great selection of Meister Eckhard's works. I'm comparing this primarily to the Bernard McGinn / O'C. Walshe edition "The Complete Mystical Works of Meister Eckhart" which has all of Eckhart's 100 and more German sermons plus four treatises (this edition has three, all of which are in McGinn). This edition has only 29 of the German sermons and four Latin sermons.

The McGinn volume is relatively pricy, but it is also the only volume with all available German sermons. I cannot speak for the quality of the translation from the Middle High German, but the one done by O'C Walshe is considered to be the best by McGinn, which he has further imporved upon. I will not concern myself with the value of Eckhart's work, because if you are considering this book, you already know that.

Of course, that does not take into account the value of any Kindle edition over a hard copy. As Kindle editions go, this one, like most others I've seen of Penguin editions is pretty good, but not the best. It does not have an active Table of Contents to all the sermons. The bibliography is good, except that most of the references are to books and papers in German. If you can read German, then this is a really good thing.

If all you want is a taste of Eckhart, this is a very good choice, as it has his important series of first four sermons in Middle High German, which form a series laying out many of his theological ideas.

There was a strong division of opinion, some asserting that we are not authorized to pray for anything but for the Holy Spirit. Others asserted with complete confidence that prayer should be made for anything which we felt we needed. The majority appeared to be assured that men must work and seek only "the kingdom of God," and that they should believe that all other things would be given from God as we should have need. Fortunately or providentially the men and women who held to the theory that God commands his disciples to pray for money determined to put the matter to a fair test. They were led by a consecrated deacon, at whose house they held the weekly meetings. They did not ask the Lord for money at first, but prayed daily for instruction on the important question whether it was a duty, or was permissible, for men to pray for success in their secular business. There were four men and several business women whose experience was especially valuable. One of them was the owner or partner in a bookbindery. The company of believers devoted an entire evening to prayer for the prosperity of his business. They agreed, further, to pray for that one thing in unison at twelve o'clock each day for one week. The conditions were especially for observation, as the owner of the business was a devout, unselfish Christian who had determined, years before, to give a tenth of all his income to the Lord's work, and he stood willing to give his all if any good cause demanded such a sacrifice.

About the Author
Russell Herman Conwell (February 15, 1843 – December 6, 1925) was an American Baptist minister, orator, philanthropist, lawyer, and writer. He is best remembered as the founder and first president of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as the Pastor of The Baptist Temple, and for his inspirational lecture, Acres of Diamonds. He was born in South Worthington, Massachusetts, and was buried in the Founder's Garden at Temple University.

Bought this after hearing the Coast to Coast interview. Very short read - seems to be self published. It's really about focusing and getting motivated....I gave it to our Lutheran Pastor to ready, good sermon ideas for him.

the best text on all types of dental inlays and onlays

this book provides excellent information and tips on why and how to do inlays and onlays in both porcelain and composite. The authors compare these type dental restorations to both gold and silver restorations so the consumer can better judge just what he or she wants to have placed into his or her mouth. There are also clear and close up photographs and illustrations showing just how these restorations should be constructed by the dental ceramist. Basically the book is all about choices in posterior dental restorations, and alternatives to silver amalgam restorations. The text is easily understood, and the book is artistically laid out with simple but complete illustrations that help make learning the techniques much easier. The chapters are written by world experts on the subjects. There is even a chapter on the use of CAD-CAM and the present and future role of this technology in construction of dental restorations
