brilliant comic prose with a dash of history

saltus's history of the russian czars is neither factual nor thorough, but the inventive language employed in this unrelenting castigation of power gone awry is undoubtedly admirable for it's many unexpected turns of clever phrase and hilariously derisive tone. i found the book uniquely entertaining and original. highly recommended, especially if you enjoy history and dark humor.

I had assumed it was an amazingly bad translation that made the author sound schizo... maybe the author is schizo!? the language is a jumble of sensational slander against the czars - very entertaining. like 12 caesars and the secret history (less substancial and sensational/creative but completely bonkers).

ok. here my second take on why this writting is so askew. the author is so consumed with being clever that he fails to establish any historical factual foundation about any of the parties he's attacking. he just launches into an attack assuming that you already know whats going on. the authors cleverness is a bit monotonous but its relatively entertaining.

There are tons of things to juggle when you manage and/or own a salon; this book gives you the tools to balance them with ease.

This book covers EVERYTHING—from managing your staff to retail products to marketing your business to saving it when it’s going under. Sometimes, it is time for a remodel or to move your salon’s location—and, yes, sometimes it may be time to close those doors. But don’t throw in the towel without reading this book!

First things first, have you thought about your salon’s heartbeat? Read the chapter “Knowing Your Salon’s Heartbeat.” You and your stylists are a team. Merging your vision for the salon with the things that drive your employees brings life and purpose to your salon, motivating your employees in a way that keeps all happy and excited to come to work. Read this book if you need help. Finally my prayers are answered....

I have been strugeling with my salon business since the day I opened my salon. I have searched high and low and could not find the help I needed to turn my business around. My accountant told me I should close the salon. I found this book online and have followed everything in this book. I have implemented everything I could. I cut my expenses as the author said to do. I have called my landlord and asked for help. It all has worked and I finally have begun to turn the corner. A i now have extra money for marketing. Buy this book and you will grow your business.

Poorly constructed book

The outstanding work by Harry Lawrence is diminished by the the poor construction of the paperback book. No glue on the binding resulted in the pages falling out. Since I could not return the book in the middle of class and await the return of a replacement, the return date expired. Wish I could have read the words inside the book without opening it.

Good read, learned a lot

I enjoyed this, thoroughly. After my 9 week class I was little burnt out as the amount of reading but I learned a lot more than I thought I would. Not sure why some people are mentioning quality, my copy has held up great. Like I stated I learned a lot- meaning I wouldn't know if everything is factually correct- but everything made sense, was explained well, and was supported very well by my class's summaries. I didn't feel a 'political slant', any more than I expected from a textbook primarily rooted in the government's interaction over the last 100 years.

Ok College Book

Had to use this book for a class. I didn't think it was as biased as some others reviewed it to be, but there were times that you could tell it would swing one way or the other. Overall it was informative, and I learned alot.
